After a toddler gets a shot...
It is not the actual wound that hurts.
It is not the memory of the needle piercing her flesh.
It is the Band-Aid.
She will continue to whimper, cry, and extract pity and remorse from all around her (especially the Cruelest of Cruel One who held her firm while the Ugly, Mean Nurse Lady made her bleed) until the Band-Aid is removed. Then she will look down at her finger, look up at you, smile, and run off to play.

Ooo-- and here I thought you were going to say it is the taking off of the band-aid that hurts.
That's been more our experience. That's some pretty sticky stuff on them stickers...
Actually, the band-aid just slipped right off. It was just on the tip of her finger and there was enough gauze and sweat (it was a hot day) that it hardly stuck at all. I was lucky!
